Three days. Six photography genres. One extraordinary island.

Accessible only by ferry, Monhegan Island has inspired artists for generations. Its rugged coastline, working harbor, quiet forests, and ever-changing light make it the perfect place to slow down, explore, and reconnect with your creative vision.

Join Seacoast Photography School for a three-day artist retreat exploring:

  • Seabird Photography: Birds in flight and coastal wildlife

  • Coastal Landscapes: Dramatic cliffs and changing light

  • Fog & Atmosphere: Mood, mystery, and misty mornings

  • Fishing Culture: The island's working harbor and traditions

  • Intimate Landscapes: Forest textures, patterns, and details

  • Dark Sky Photography: Night skies and astrophotography

More than a photography workshop, this retreat offers time to observe, experiment, and develop your personal vision. Our small-group format combines creative exploration with personalized, hands-on field instruction from SPS Lead Instructor David Mazur.

IMPORTANT PREPARATION NOTE:

If you are not yet confident with the Exposure Triangle (the relationship between aperture, shutter speed, and ISO), we strongly recommend scheduling a private one-on-one session before the workshop.

Lead Instructor

David Mazur

David is the Founder and Lead Instructor of Seacoast Photography School and has guided photographers through Maine's rugged coastal landscape for years. His work spans coastal landscapes, seabird migration, fog and atmospheric photography, wildlife, astrophotography, and documentary style storytelling inspired by the raw beauty of New England’s working waterfronts.

Known for his clear, engaging, witty, and hands-on teaching style, David helps photographers slow down, observe light more intentionally, and build confidence in the field. His instruction combines technical guidance with creative exploration, helping participants strengthen composition, work intuitively in changing conditions, and develop their own way of seeing through the lens.
