One of Maine’s Most Photogenic

Ten miles off the coast of Maine, Monhegan Island offers photographers something increasingly rare: uninterrupted presence.

Rugged cliffs, sea fog at dawn, migrating seabirds, a working lobster harbor, an artist community, ancient spruce forests, and dark skies untouched by light pollution create an unforgettable environment for photographers looking to slow down, explore deeply, and create meaningful work.

Hands-on photography education in real-world environments.

Monhegan Island is unlike anywhere else on the Maine coast. Accessible only by ferry, this remote car-free island has inspired painters, photographers, and artists for generations. Its rugged cliffs, working harbor, dense spruce forests, and constantly shifting coastal light create endless opportunities for visual storytelling.

Over three immersive days, we will take photographers on a robust 6-genre photo adventure: seabird migration, dramatic landscapes, fog-filled mornings, fishing culture, intimate forest scenes, and dark sky astrophotography.

We keep our workshops small and personal, so that each photographer receives hands-on instruction in the field from Seacoast Photography School Lead Instructor David Mazur.

IMPORTANT PREPARATION NOTE:

If you are not yet confident with the Exposure Triangle (the relationship between aperture, shutter speed, and ISO), we strongly recommend scheduling a private one-on-one session before the workshop.

Lead Instructor

David Mazur

David is the Founder and Lead Instructor of Seacoast Photography School and has guided photographers through Maine's rugged coastal landscape for years. His work spans coastal landscapes, seabird migration, fog and atmospheric photography, wildlife, astrophotography, and documentary style storytelling inspired by the raw beauty of New England’s working waterfronts.

Known for his clear, engaging, witty, and hands-on teaching style, David helps photographers slow down, observe light more intentionally, and build confidence in the field. His instruction combines technical guidance with creative exploration, helping participants strengthen composition, work intuitively in changing conditions, and develop their own way of seeing through the lens.
