A Seacoast Adventure You’ll Want to Photograph
Join us for a full-day photography experience of a creative escape to Star Island, one of the historic Isles of Shoals located 7 miles off the coast of New Hampshire. We’ll depart via ferry from Portsmouth and spend the day exploring the island’s rocky coastlines, historic cottages, winding walking paths, and panoramic Atlantic views through the lens of travel and landscape photography.
Whether you're capturing wide-angle ocean vistas, the textures of weathered buildings, or the charm of island life, this workshop is a must for photographers seeking both technical instruction and visual inspiration.
What You’ll Learn
Photography composition techniques that tell a story
Using natural light, shadow, and sky to add drama to landscapes
Balancing foreground, midground, and background for visual depth
Working with manual exposure settings in bright coastal conditions

The Oceanic Hotel and historic chapel

8:50 AM: Meet at Isles of Shoals Steamship Company in Portsmouth, NH
9:20 AM: Ferry departs (approx. 1 hour ride)
10:30 AM – 2:00 PM: Guided exploration, photo instruction, and shoot time
3:15 PM: Return ferry to Portsmouth
What to Bring
DSLR or mirrorless camera
Wide-angle lens and zoom/telephoto lens (if available)
Comfortable walking shoes and daypack
Water, snacks or lunch, sun protection, and weather-appropriate layers
Tripod optional for long exposures or seascapes
Polarizing filter (recommended for sky and water shots)
