Where: Portsmouth, NH Meet at 155 Fleet St.
Who: FREE to Subscribers of Seacoast Photography School (all levels)

What we’ll do

·       6:00 PM — Quick huddle: routes, safety, and camera settings for low light.

·       6:15–7:30 PM — Photowalk along the parade route: Strawbery Banke → Market Square → Congress St →

·       7:30–8:30 PMThe “Two Shots That Matter” Challenge

1.     Energy: Capture a frame that feels like the parade with motion, crowd, rhythm.

2.     Character: A portrait or small scene that shows who is behind the costume.

Recommended gear (pick your poison)

  • Any camera; phones welcome.

  • Lenses: 24–70mm (workhorse), 35mm/50mm (storytelling), 70–200mm (compression & candids).

·       Settings starting point:

  • Aperture: f/2.8–f/4 (isolate subjects, keep shutter up)

  • Shutter: 1/250–1/500 for moving subjects; drag to 1/15–1/30 for motion streaks

  • ISO: 1600–6400 (don’t fear the grain; it’s better than blur)

  • Accessories: Spare battery, fast card, small on-camera flash with bounce card/diffuser, rain cover, comfy shoes.

Pro tips for the night

  • Focus Mode: Continuous AF; single point or spot

  • Metering: Spot/center-weighted on faces; chimp the histogram, not just the LCD.

  • Motion Blur Magic: Rear-curtain sync + 1/15s for light trails on moving costumes.
