Remove the color. Discover the story.

What happens when you take color out of the equation? Distractions disappear, light and shadows take center stage, and everyday streets reveal stories we might otherwise overlook.

Join Seacoast Photography School as we explore historic Portsmouth through black-and-white street photography. Inspired by Henri Cartier-Bresson, Vivian Maier, and Fan Ho, we'll explore how light, contrast, composition, and fleeting moments create compelling images. It's not simply about converting photographs to black and white, but learning to see without color before pressing the shutter.

Beyond Color. Beyond the Ordinary.

Color shows us what something looks like. Black and white invites us to look deeper. Join Seacoast Photography School as we explore historic Portsmouth, discovering the stories hidden in everyday moments.

Through this workshop, we'll explore:

  • How light separates a subject from its surroundings

  • The rhythm of repeating windows, lines, and architectural details

  • The loneliness of an empty bench or quiet street

  • Fleeting expressions, gestures, and human connections

  • How shadows, contrast, and composition create mood and emotion
